“Ishan Kishan: Keeping Eyes on the Prize Amid T20 World Cup Speculation”

India opener Ishan Kishan has shared that he is not overly concerned about his selection for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.

Speaking after a stellar performance in the IPL where he scored a brisk 34-ball 69 against Royal Challengers Bangalore, Kishan emphasized the importance of focusing on the present moment rather than worrying about future selections.

“About the (T20) World Cup, it is not in my hands and I am taking things very easy right now,” he stated. “You have to take one match at a time. One needs to understand that a lot is not in the hands of the players.”

Kishan recently returned to competitive cricket in the Indian Premier League after taking a break from international cricket for personal reasons. Despite not being included in the BCCI central contract list, he maintains a positive attitude and is concentrating on what he can control.

“I was practising [during the break]. When you take a break, people gossip about it a lot, they say a lot of things on social media. But I feel it’s important to understand not everything is in players’ hands,” Kishan remarked.

He stressed the significance of adopting a good mindset to deal with external pressures, particularly those from social media. Kishan’s approach reflects his maturity and focus on the game, rather than getting distracted by off-field discussions.

“There is nothing like that [that] I want to prove to someone,” he mentioned. “I just have to go there and enjoy. I have learned that you do not have to add pressure on yourself about these things, which are not in your hand.”

Currently leading the run charts for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024, Kishan’s impressive form demonstrates his potential as a valuable asset for the Indian team. Despite facing challenges, he remains resilient and focused on contributing positively to his team’s success, both in the IPL and potentially in future international assignments.
