“Unveiling Shashini Gimhani: Sri Lanka’s Teen Sensation Making Waves Worldwide!”

Sri Lanka Cricket has announced its 15-member squad for the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier, with the team being led by experienced batter Chamari Athapaththu. Among the notable selections is 15-year-old spin sensation Shashini Gimhani, who garnered attention for her impressive performances in the recent U19 Women’s tri-series against England and Australia.

Gimhani, who is yet to make her senior international debut, showcased her talent with notable bowling figures in the U19 tour matches, including 2/12 against England in the T20 leg and 3/48 in a one-day game against Australia. Her unorthodox bowling action has drawn comparisons to South Africa’s famous spinner Paul Adams, earning her recognition and admiration.

If Gimhani gets the chance to play in the Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier, she could potentially become the youngest player to represent Sri Lanka in a Women’s T20I match, surpassing the record set by Vishmi Gunaratne at the age of 16 years and 149 days.

The Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier is scheduled to take place from 25 April to 7 May, featuring ten teams divided into two groups. Sri Lanka is placed in Group A alongside Thailand, Scotland, Uganda, and the USA. The top two teams from each group, along with the finalists, will qualify for the main event in Bangladesh later this year.
