“Shockwaves: BCCI Drops Major Players from India Men’s Central Contracts”

Two key players, Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer, have been notably excluded from the Annual Player Contracts list for 2023-2024 announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday, 28 February.

In their statement, the BCCI clarified, “Please note that Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan were not considered for the annual contracts in this round of recommendations.”

Last year, Iyer was placed in Grade B, while Kishan was part of Grade C. However, they have not been included in this year’s contracts.

The elite Grade A+ category remains unchanged, with Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ravindra Jadeja continuing as the top earners.

Ravichandran Ashwin, Mohammed Shami, and Hardik Pandya retain their Grade A contracts, while KL Rahul, Mohammed Siraj, and Shubman Gill have been promoted to Grade A from Grade B last year.

Suryakumar Yadav, the No.1 ranked T20I batter, has been placed in Grade B along with newcomers like Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has received his first BCCI central contract.

Players like Rinku Singh, Tilak Verma, Shivam Dube, Ravi Bishnoi, and Jitesh Sharma have been awarded Grade C contracts, indicating their roles in India’s T20I setup.

Dhruv Jurel and Sarfaraz Khan have the opportunity to join the Grade C category if they participate in the final Test against England in Dharamsala. The criteria for Grade C contracts require players to play a minimum of 3 Tests or 8 ODIs or 10 T20Is within the specified period.

Additionally, the Selection Committee has recommended Fast Bowling contracts for five pacers: Akash Deep, Vijaykumar Vyshak, Umran Malik, Yash Dayal, and Vidwath Kaverappa.
