“South Africa Launches WTC25 Campaign with Commanding Victory Against India”

South Africa clinched a commanding victory against India within three days at Centurion, securing their first points in the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25. The Proteas’ dominant performance, both with the bat and ball, resulted in an innings and 32-run win, propelling them to the top of the World Test Championship table with a 100% win percentage.

Here’s a summary of how the Test unfolded:

Day 1: KL Rahul Rescues India

South Africa’s pacers wreaked havoc early on, reducing India to 121/6. Despite this, KL Rahul’s resilient batting, along with Shardul Thakur, helped India reach 208/8 by the end of the rain-interrupted day. Kagiso Rabada stood out with a five-for, recording figures of 5/44.

Day 2: Elgar’s Swansong Century

KL Rahul secured his century, guiding India past 200 before getting dismissed. South Africa’s Dean Elgar stole the show with a brilliant century, well-supported by Tony de Zorzi and David Bedingham. India’s pacers, despite taking wickets, couldn’t prevent South Africa from gaining an 11-run lead with five wickets in hand.

Day 3: South Africa Dominates

South Africa extended their lead with Elgar’s 185-run innings and a crucial 111-run partnership with Marco Jansen for the sixth wicket. Although India dismissed Elgar, Jansen’s unbeaten 84 propelled South Africa to a significant lead. In the second innings, India struggled against the Proteas’ pace attack, with Virat Kohli being the lone fighter, scoring 76. India was eventually bowled out for 131, and South Africa emerged victorious.

The series now moves to Cape Town for the final Test, scheduled to begin on January 3, 2024.
