“KL Rahul Earns Special Title from Batting Coach for Gutsy Centurion Knock”

Vikram Rathour, India’s batting coach, showered accolades upon KL Rahul for his remarkable half-century during the Boxing Day Test against South Africa in Centurion. Facing adversity at 92/4 against a formidable South African pace attack on a challenging wicket, Rahul showcased resilience, steering India to a more favorable position at 208/8 by the end of the day.

In the face of a potent South African seam quartet, Rahul’s unbeaten 70 stood out as a commendable effort. Navigating the tricky conditions, he exhibited a blend of caution and aggression, guiding India through a phase that initially seemed daunting. Rathour, acknowledging Rahul’s proficiency, dubbed him India’s “crisis man,” lauding his immaculate touch and strokeplay.

“He’s certainly going to be a man of crisis for us, I think,” Rathour expressed in the post-day press conference. “Every time there are tough situations, and most of the times he’s there. He’s the guy who handles those situations really well. He was very clear with his game plans, knew what he wanted to do, defended the right balls, attacked the right balls.”

Facing adverse conditions after South Africa opted to bowl first, India’s less experienced middle-order was exposed early on. While Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer provided some resistance, it was Rahul who assumed the mantle of anchoring the innings after their dismissals.

“The conditions were tough for the batting. After 3-4 games of cricket, lunch we ended at 91-43 I think. There was a good recovery and a good partnership between the two [Kohli and Iyer],” remarked the batting coach, highlighting Kohli’s form during his stay at the crease.

Despite the early collapse, Rathour expressed satisfaction with India’s performance, emphasizing a reasonable recovery. As rain interrupted play on day one, India stands at 208/8, with Rahul unbeaten on 70, accompanied by Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna to follow. The challenging circumstances witnessed Rahul’s resilience, making him a pivotal figure in India’s effort to establish a solid position in the Test match.
